Tanzania still suffers a deficit of 67% blood, please help

Dar es Salaam: In the month of June the World celebrates World Blood
Donor Day. Today Tanzania still suffers a deficit of 67% blood
requirements. The main consumers of blood transfusions are children
under five years (50%), women during pregnancy as well as women who
bleed post delivery (30%), accident victims (15%), other diseases like
Cancer and Sickle Cell (5%). Tanzania strives to reach the Millennium
Goals amongst which Maternal Health is one of the most important
priorities.

Strategis Insurance (Tanzania) Limited in collaboration with the
Ministry of Health and Social Welfare through National Blood
Transfusion Service (NBTS) will be conducting the blood donation
exercise on Saturday 9th June 2012, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at Mlimani
City – Car park area. Healthy people between 18 and 65 years and
weighing at least 50 kilograms can donate blood. We cordially invite
you, your colleagues, friends, and family to join us in this
initiative by donating blood which will help saving someone’s life as
we are all of different blood groups.
