Life as hell and no fish

Special correspondent: Bagamoyo –

LIFE here is similar to Hell, no fish, since yesterday, no credit, my
family depend on me, life is becoming harder day after day.

That is what Mr. Mgunda Rashid, thinks during an interview with Panos team.

He says, the lives of many fishermen here around Bagamoyo are miserable, as
for those who are using boats without machines due to the prevailing wind at
sea that they cannot make their operations more effective

He noted that people are using boats without engines are unable to go
farther to find fish and the result is getting a little fish and sometimes
totally lacking

He says he and his colleagues have a normal evening into the sea, where it
set a net and the next day is going to look at as a successful fish

He notes that despite their efforts, but have been cast over the
vulnerability of fishing equipment that would be modern as they could get
much more spice and so get money to live their lives

Also he says many fishermen have no income to buy large boats to engines
and even credit institutions and conditions have been difficult to get loans
from the financial institutions.

Personal Life

He says he was born 35 years ago in Bombo hospital in Tanga Region and his
parents are not well financially so he did not get chance to go to school.

He added that his parents have no awareness of education and its importance
so they decided not to send their children to school.

He noted that due to lack of education he began to ascend fish activity
with 8 years where he was paid less, which was enabled him to buy only food

He says because of that neighborhood and fishermen often was influenced by
the work of fish that fishermen had been seen many times they get money when
they sell the fish were caught

He noted that the words he had been about from the fishermen begin
accompanied by fishermen urge them into the sea in order to more experienced
and know the work which he saw is the only light of his life

He says having the 10 years she began entering the sea where the first was
very afraid because it was night and the wind was blowing rings with the
fishermen he had always been anxious to be able to adjust to wander in where
they were exposed

Also he added, that after this trip he decided to ease the hold abandon
thoughts of a fisherman and he returned to his job of baldness fish.

However, the work of the ascent of fish was not so had to hold back his
profits back into the sea along with other fishermen, but this trip things
were better than that for the first time.

He hasn’t no child or wife because he spend more time in water than land.

He noted that he often left the sea becomes more tired and needs rest in
order to make preparation before entering again into the sea, so he says he
has no time to go here to find women

He says what he obtains is a small income contributes significantly not to
think a woman because most of them now need a lot of money and need
different services.

“If my life how is complicated, how am I provide funds for care for a woman
who I’m sure for a long time will be alone because I am in the sea”

He notes that he cannot do any more work with it so if the government or
stakeholders want to help the engine well and gave the boats that are
helpful to many fish and thus increase income

He says there are some fishermen did explain that there had announced a
financial institution to help the fishermen to give them various credits but
it fail rock due some costrains .

He adds that because of crashed rock to exercise due to the organization’s
leaders make it clear that many fishermen do not have collateral

He says, now regret why he didn’t go to school because he saw many young
people who have read a good job or they have been employed in various
sectors including the arts of carved masks and paint.
