LAND ACCOUNTABILITY PROJECT LAUNCHES WEB PORTAL TO MONITOR LAND GRABS

LAND ACCOUNTABILITY PROJECT LAUNCHES WEB PORTAL
TO MONITOR LAND GRABS

(Dar es Salaam, 4 August 2011) ActionAid Tanzania in collaboration
with the Tanzania Land Alliance (TALA) under the Land Accountability
Project (LAP) launches a web-based land portal to aid in accessing
information and discussion of land related issues in Tanzania.

The project will also establish a system for women and the poor to
access support and expose land grabbing on the internet, as well as
support TALA to hold Ministers, MPs and Officials accountable for
improving the local land administration.

Another part of the project is to facilitate civil society to develop
a toolbox for the implementation of the Village Land Act. LAP will be
implemented in 130 villages and thereby aim to empower 130,000 women
to access and control land.

ActionAid Tanzania’s Country Director, Aida Kiangi, said, “The Land
Accountability Project is an ambitious attempt to bring together civil
society, supporting especially women and the poor, to fight land
grabbing, corruption and injustice in the administration of land in
Tanzania. ActionAid Tanzania truly believes that LAP could be the
beginning of new way of working on land rights in Tanzania.”
