Experts discuss challenges and opportunities facing African agriculture

Nairobi: As recurring food crises and other challenges continue to impact efforts to end destructive cycles of food insecurity, two of the world\’s leading experts on food security and rural development will host a panel discussion focused on the question: Can Africa feed itself?

Sir Gordon Conway, Professor of International Development at Imperial College, London and Dr Namanga Ngongi, former President of Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) will host a panel discussion exploring the challenges and opportunities facing African agriculture and solutions stakeholders are employing to resolve the problem. The discussion will be guided by the recently released report by the Montpellier Panel, Growth with resilience: opportunities in African agriculture. 2012 provides the opportunity to influence the global food security agenda and impact future generations. Donor governments will meet to evaluate progress on billions of dollars committed to global food security and sustainable development goals at Rio+20 events in Brazil and at the G20 in Mexico.
