Vice President Dr Mohammed Bilal fetes best employers

Dar es Salaam:

The Vice President Dr Mohammed Bilal has asked employers to work closely
with the government to ensure implementation of BIG RESULTS NOW (BRN) is
made possible.

Presiding over the Employer of the Year Award (EYA) 2013, he commended the
Association of Tanzania Employers (ATE) for organizing the event, adding
that such surveys were necessary benchmarking for improvement of human
recourses in the country.

A press statement issued by ATE yesterday (8 12 2013) said in the survey
where about 70 firms participated, VODACOM Tanzania emerged as the best
employer of the year and won Overall EYA (Gold Award), followed by CRBD
Bank PLC, which won 1st Runner-up EYA (Silver Award) and CocaCola Kwanza,
that won 2nd Runner up EYA (Bronze Award).

Other enterprises, in the top ten as best employers were Mantrac Tanzania;
Tanzania Breweries Limited ; National Microfinance Bank (NMB); Standard
Chartered Bank (SCB); DHL; Geita Gold Mines and Social Security Regulatory
Authority (SSRA). About 19 awards were won.

The Vice President commended the winners and all employers in the country,
and urged them all to take part in getting rid of old and unproductive ways
of doing things to maximize production through high business performance.

The Minister for Labour and employment, Hon Gaudentia Kabaka (MP) urged
employers to be innovative and called for creation of jobs in big numbers
especially for the youth.

ATE Chairperson Mr. Almas Maige hailed participants for their role in
improving business competitiveness. He said the ATE was committed to the
annual survey that comes up with the winners in the quest to foster for
adherence to local and international best practices in Human Resource
Management.

ATE Executive Director Dr. Aggry Mlimuka said that one of the objectives of
EYA was to recognize employers who have excelled in putting in place
outstanding HR management policies and best business practices.

He said participants in 2013 survey were by both private and public sectors
and is an indication that we are going on the top, in the struggle to
improve human resources and increase productivity.

The International Labour Organization (ILO) Director General Guy Ryder
commended ATE for organizing such a survey, saying, there was a need to do
all that is possible to improve productivity and living standard of people.
He called for public and private sector to collaborate for better economic
prospects. He was equally impressed to know that for the first time ATE
introduced the Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award there by promoting the
young people into becoming really employers.
