TBL vows to scale up energy efficiency

Dar es Salaam: Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) has introduced a
policy that seeks to make the brewer achieve high levels of water and
energy efficiency.

The brewer will reduce the use of water and electricity in its plants
across the country, while increasing the output.

The efforts involves educating workers to be use water and energy
efficiently at the firm’s plants and apartments.

Edith Mushi, the TBL communication manager said the company is
committed to achieving levels of water and energy efficiency that are
in line with the top 25 per cent of the SABMiller breweries worldwide.

“Tanzania is a country for which water scarcity is a reality of life,
and energy is a precious resource for the growth of the country and
our company. As such, it is our corporate duty to reduce the amount
of each used in the brewing and packaging of our beer,” Mushi
declared.

She further said the firm is saving a lot after setting up a recycling
water treatment plant.

TBL will take a number of steps to achieve its targets including the
publication of a formal policy document, an assembly of water and
energy teams in all plants, implementation of monitoring and targeting
systems, and utilization of line teams to drive continuous reduction
in the use of water and electricity, the manager noted.

TBL is part of SABMiller and, as one of the largest brewing companies
in the world, takes it as its responsibility to reduce requirements
for resources so that the company can develop and grow in a
sustainable manner, the manager added.
