Sports diplomacy glorifies President Samia

ANALYSTS have commented that sports diplomacy has flourished under the two-year tenure in top office of President Samia Suluhu Hassan than ever before calling the development a catalyst for the growth of sports sector in the country.

Without doubt, participation of Tanzania athletes in major international contests keeps jumping up day after day due to the existing good diplomatic ties that the country cherishes with the rest of the world.

At the same time, an influx of foreign athletes who descend in the country to partake in various sport competitions keeps scaling up and in such doing, the status of improving sports becomes inevitable.

For instance, a number of boxing games organized in the country are attracting boxers from beyond the borders like Zambia, DR Congo, South Africa, Malawi and many other places.

Similarly, Tanzanian pugilists are invited to compete in different contests outside the country a thing which has tripled during the reign of President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

In football circles, examples to support this move are many as Tanzania teams ranging from national to club levels are constantly on the move, exploring different parts of the world and in so doing, contributing to cement the sports diplomacy.

Highlighting much on sports diplomacy, Acting Director of Sports Ally Mayay insisted that a lot of good programs are in place for the sake of enhancing this relationship while hailing the existing administration for putting an enabling environment.

“There are many achievements recorded so far through the progressing sports relation and to be honest, our president is doing a recommendable task to facilitate this.

“In Morogoro, there is a certain academy which has entered into partnership with the Embassy of Italy to get a FIFA accredited consultant from Italy responsible to oversee the academy to the extent that each year, four players will be going to Italy to upgrade their skills.

“This is one of the products of the sports diplomacy which we are all cherishing under the good leadership of our president,” Mayay noted.
