Afrobeats star, Mr Eazi, is making waves in the art world as he announces an innovative collaboration with 13 talented artists across Africa.
Known for his chart-topping hits and electrifying performances, Mr Eazi, whose real name is Oluwatosin Ajibade, is taking his creativity to new heights by blending music and art in a way never seen before.
The “Leg Over” singer has announced a unique art and music collaboration with 13 artists from across Africa for his first studio album, set to release later this year.
Each album track will have an accompanying art piece, created by these artists. The album aims to evoke intense emotions and provide fans with a multi-sensory experience that transcends boundaries, which will take place in London, Lagos, and New York.
These artists hail from diverse African countries, including Benin, Cameroon, Nigeria, Mozambique, Kenya, South Africa, Senegal, and Togo. Together, they have crafted visually stunning masterpieces that complement and enhance the themes explored in Mr Eazi’s music – love, betrayal, loneliness, and family.
The album is a musical scrapbook, including many music collaborators that blend Afrobeat, Afropop, gospel, hiplife, highlife, and folklore into a fresh and organic pan-African fusion.
Choplife IP, the company founded by Mr Eazi to invest in African culture from music to film, is funding this trailblazing project.
“During the album’s two-year and multi-country recording process, Mr Eazi forged relationships with visual artists whose work he encountered. Noting the lack of collaboration between Africa’s exploding pop music scene and the continent’s fine art creators; Mr Eazi joined forces with 13 artists to enhance the album experience. Each individual was given true creative freedom based on the music,” the company stated.
Mr Eazi will also be collaborating with the 1-54 Contemporary African art fair as the fair hosts the London leg of the exhibition. The collection will be part of its special projects section this October.
“For me, it’s exciting to see an internationally acclaimed musician platforming the work of emerging African artists,” says El Glaoui, founding director of 1-54.
Further art pieces will be revealed in August before the full exhibition opens to the public.
Mr Eazi has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Beyoncé, J Balvin, Bad Bunny, Burna Boy, and Nicki Minaj. With this groundbreaking project, he is once again pushing the boundaries of creativity and paving the way for a new era of artistic expression.
