Middle East and Africa solar technology contracts in Q4 2021 saw 46 contracts announced, marking a rise of 21% over the last four-quarter average of 38, according to Global Data’s power industry contracts database.
The proportion of solar technology contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Project Implementation with 25 contracts and a 54.3% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 13 contracts and a 28.3% share
- Supply & Erection: six contracts and a 13% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: two contracts and a 4.3% share.
South Africa tops Middle East and Africa solar power contracts activity
South Africa was the top country in the Middle East and Africa region for solar technology contracts recorded in Q4 2021 with nine contracts and a 19.6% share, followed by Burkina Faso with six contracts and a 13% share and the United Arab Emirates with five contracts and a 10.9% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:
- Ministry of Electricity, Iraq (Iraq) and National Investment Commission, Iraq: 1,000MW from one contract
- Department of Energy, South Africa (South Africa): 723MW from seven contracts
- General Electricity Company Of Libya (Libya): 500MW capacity from one contract.
