Malindi Fish Landing Facilities in Zanzibar for a major facelift

On 11th March, 2014, the Government of Japan and the Government of the
United Republic of Tanzania signed Exchange of Notes for the Japanese Grant
Projects “The Project for Development of Malindi Fish Landing and Marketing
Facilities in Zanzibar”.

The grant which will be provided from the Government of Japan amounts to
ninety hundred and thirty five million Japanese Yen (\935,000,000),
approximately fourteen billion seven hundred and seventy three million
Tanzanian Shillings (Tsh 14,773,000,000).

The project includes reconstructing the landing quay to ensure safe landing
for nearly 400 fishing boats, constructing a fish market and providing
equipment which provide an efficient work environment and hygienic place
for more than 6,000 users, and providing training programmes for management.

By implementing these components, the project will greatly contribute to
the stable supply of better quality fish to the people of Zanzibar.

H. E. Mr. Masaki Okada, Ambassador of Japan, and Mr. Khamis Mussa Omar,
Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Finance in the Revolutionary
Government of Zanzibar, signed the Exchange of Notes, and Mr. Yasunori
Onishi, Chief Representative of JICA Tanzania Office, and Mr. Khamis Mussa
Omar, Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Finance in the Revolutionary
Government of Zanzibar, signed the Grant Agreement.
