ATE: Why employers must participate in Employer of the Year Award (EYA) 2013 in big numbers

Dar es Salaam, 23 10 2013:
The private and public sector has been urged to take part in the Employer
of the Year Award (EYA) 2013 survey for their contribution and commitment
towards creation of skilled workforce and provision of a safe and
supportive work environment in Tanzania to be recognized.

Addressing a press conference in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday 22 October 2013,
the organizers of the annual event now in its sixth year, the Association
of Tanzania Employers (ATE) announced the deadline for participation is
October 31st 2013.

ATE Chairperson Mr. Almas Maige and ATE Executive Director, Dr. Aggrey
Mlimuka said that their ATE as the most Representative Employers’ body in
Tanzania with over 1,200 registered member Employers countrywide through
Employer of the Year Award (EYA) has and is actively promoting and
encouraging best practices in Human Resources and about 21 awards will be
on contention.

“To improve productivity, competitiveness and wealth creation, employers in
Tanzania must embrace best human resource practices. A capable, well
skilled workforce at different levels across all sectors of the economy is
what we need as a nation to move to the next level of development,” said
Dr. Mlimuka.

He said a local independent consulting firm Pamoma Limited is undertaking
the survey. This year one can fill up the survey questionnaires online at
Pamoma.co.tz or download them at eya.co.tz, he announced. “All ATE members
are eligible to participate without any fee,” he added.

Dr. Mlimuka urged all members of ATE to participate in the EYA survey as an
opportunity to assess, share, learn, compare and benchmark human resources,
business policies, systems, tools and practices. By participating, it goes
a long way to show employers care about BEST practices in human resource
management.

“The importance of maintaining and greatly valuing human resources cannot
gainsaid …it is the employees who contribute towards maximizing output for
the organization,” he added.

Dr. Mlimuka also announced that this year at EYA night there will also be
Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2013. “The purpose of this new award
is to recognize leading Tanzanian’s entrepreneurs within the country whose
outstanding accomplishments in their businesses have contributed to the
well-being of the community and Tanzania in general.”

Last year the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E Dr. Jakaya
Kikwete was the Chief guest and he handled over certificates of
participation to all participants of Employer of the Year 2012.
