EADBC is partnering with the International County and City Management Assoc
iation (ICMA) and PEER Consultants in a Study Mission, unique
knowledge exchange
platform, for a delegation of newly elected representatives from the Council
of Governors of Kenya from September 25 to September 27 in Boston, Massach
usetts. In the Kenyan delegation are: H.E Isaac Ruto – Chairman Council of
Governors and 1st Governor, County of Bomet; H.E Ahmed Adullahi Mohamad – 1st
Governor, County of Wajir; H.E Simon Kachapin Kitalei – 1st Governor, County
of West Pokot; H.E. Dr. Julius M. Malombe –
1st Governor, County of Kitui; Ms. Rosellyn Omolloh and Mr. Vitalis Kimutai
– Council of Governors of Kenya, and Mr. Charles Nyachae – Chairman,
Commission for the Implementation of the Constitution.
With Kenya’s devolution from a fully centralized national government to a c
ounty system of governance in the nascent stages, newly elected governors
are striving to put into place structures that are necessary to
facilitate sustainable
provision of services. EADBC is supporting the transition process at this cr
itical point by bridging knowledge and relationships between the US and Kenya
to enable establishment of essential sector functions.
The Study Mission, which is funded by the US Agency for International Deve
lopment (USAID) and the Ford Foundation, offers learning opportunities
for government
leaders and administrators in East Africa to interact with counterparts in
the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and nurture sustainable trade and commerce
relations between the two regions. The Kenyan delegation will
engage State,
County and City administrators on governance for sustainable economic
development and capacity building. The program includes innovative revenue
generation, tourist development programs, building sustainable community ini
tiatives, sustainable economic development, and smart financing for
infrastructure, utilities, and public.
