Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) now constitutes the region with lowest number of people on electricity supply, subjecting women and girls to rights abuses, energy experts meeting at a Pan African Climate Justice Alliance organized meeting currently ongoing in Egypt have said.
Currently, around one in two people in sub Saharan Africa, roughly 75% of the global total, have no electricity. And a staggering 80% of the population (about 800 million people) lacks access to modern energy, and rely on biomass products such as wood, charcoal, and dung to cook.
