Kololo is an iconic ground. It is where Uganda was handed its independence by the colonial Government in 1962. It has consequently been named Independence Grounds.
Today (Friday), Uganda, which has for a long time been branded as, “Pearl of Africa” will go back to Kololo Independence Grounds to break ties with her past.
The former British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, who was visiting Uganda more than 100 years ago, was impressed by the beauty of Uganda and named it “Pearl of Africa.”
President Yoweri Museveni is expected to preside over the launch of “Rediscovering the Magnificence of the Pearl”.
Uganda has previously sold its image to the outside world under different taglines: Gifted by Nature, Visit Uganda and Remember Uganda.
Uganda is blessed with the rarest primates, including half of the 1,000 Mountain Gorillas there are in the world. She has 5,000 chimpanzees.
Beyond the primates are more 1,000 species of birds, which include the Crested Crane, Uganda’s national bird. The much-sought bird is the shoebill.
The culture of the different tribes is part of Uganda’s silent beauty, as it is still untapped.
