The Association of Tanzania Employers (ATE) today has officially
launched the Employer of the Year Award (EYA) event.
The annual event organized by ATE
The annual event organized by ATE is geared towards promoting and
encouraging best Human Resources Management practices in a bid to
enhance organizational productivity and competitiveness.
The event will give an opportunity to ATE members to showcase their
best practices while competing among themselves.
Speaking during a press conference, ATE Chairperson Advocate Cornelius
Kariwa said ATE recognizes that continuous improvement of Human
Resources at the work place was paramount for making Tanzania economy
competitive at local, regional and global level.
“The Employer of the Year Award propels best practices in Human
Resources (HR), a key ingredient in business success and a driver of
the economy. We realize developing HR sector will help push our
economy to new levels of growth,” he said.
ATE Chairperson said The Employer of the Year Award has specific
objectives of recognizing ATE members who have excelled in putting in
place outstanding HR Management policies and best business practices.
Other objectives include benchmarking employers with best HR
Management practices, develop a set of guidelines to be adhered by
employers in Tanzania and compilation of information on the status of
HR Management and practices among ATE members and identify areas for
improvement while rewarding best practices.
On his side, ATE, Executive Director Dr. Aggrey K. Mlimuka said “this
is an opportunity for ATE members to showcase what they do with
regards to HR Management taking into consideration the value of
skilled and motivated employees toward organizational excellence”.
The event is categorised into two main parts, the first part is the
survey which will be done by an independent Consultancy firm- PAMOMA
Ltd, which have been selected after competitive bidding and the second
part will be the awarding event which is scheduled to be done in the
second week of December this year.
In the survey all critical areas of the HR Management of the
participating organisations are assessed ranging from primary
benefits, secondary benefits, working conditions, training and
development among others.
All members of ATE are encouraged to participate so as to benchmark
their organizational practices and that of their counterpart. They
will also be able to find out what their peers are doing to keep their
employees motivated and happy on the job among others pertinent HR
issues
This will be the fifth event since its introduction back in 2005.
However this year’s event is different compared to the previous
events. There has been some addition in the Award categories and
also all participants will be issued with certificate of
participation.
“Every participating employer shows willingness to be audited for best
Human Resource practices. That is why we have decided to recognize all
participants with a certificate and in a special website to showcase
them throughout the year, Dr Mlimuka said.

employer’s organization in the country with more than 1000 members’
organization countrywide. One of the duties of the Association is to
promote harmonious labour relations at workplaces as well as best
practices in HR management for smooth running of businesses which are

organizing the Employer of the Year Award.
