AXESS Networks, COMITAS e-Health, Wazima Health partner to provide eHealth solutions in Africa

Wazima Health, Africa’s Integrated e-Health Telemedicine and Health management UK company, AXESS Networks, a global leader of satellite communications solutions provider, and COMITAS e-Health, a Spanish Telemedicine Service Provider, hereby announce their joint partnership.

Three strong partners – one common goal: making healthcare accessible to everyone
The collaboration brings together the expertise and resources of three of the most innovative companies in this field. By leveraging the latest technologies and tools, the companies will provide access to medical services, including screening, diagnosis, and treatment, to people in areas with limited access to healthcare.

• AXESS provides satellite, fiber and wireless communications solutions, including among other services VSAT networks and project management expertise.
• Wazima, the Integrated Healthcare system provider, focuses on point of care screening, access to diagnosis, Electronic Health Records referral, medicines, monitoring and support for continuous care.
• COMITAS e-Health specializes in the provision of professional telemedicine services, hardware and software that efficiently support the remote medical exploration of any kind
of patients.
The parties share the common goal to make quality healthcare in Africa more accessible.

Health as a Human Right – The World Health Organization (WHO) works worldwide to promote health, keep the world safe, and serve the vulnerable. To make health for all a reality, everyone must have access to high quality health services – when and where they need it – without the risk of falling into poverty due to the resulting costs. Universal health coverage is expressed in the United Nations 2030 Agenda (Sustainable Development Goals, Goal 3). The WHO constitution acknowledges the “highest attainable standard of health as a fundamental right of every human being. [This] recognizes a legal obligation on states to ensure access to timely, acceptable, and affordable healthcare”.

Seizing opportunities of digital technologies – The partners have developed comprehensive solutions for the provision of telemedicine services via satellite in remote areas, making it possible for patients to receive medical care without having to travel to a healthcare facility. Services are made available in specialist sites like medical care centres, hospitals, pharmacies or diagnostic centres where medical professionals are located in real-time, as well as in remote sites, equipped with a remote medical examination system. A further service offered is medical assistance and consultancy by graduates in medicine and surgery. It can also involve doctors sharing or discussing, digital X-ray images.

“Universal health coverage has become even more crucial with the pandemics”, says Ralf Schmitz Chief Commercial Officer of AXESS EMEA. “The global demand for new digital technologies that contribute to the accessibility of healthcare has significantly increased. We are convinced that telemedicine will establish itself as a new form of healthcare provision. We look forward to joining forces with our excellent partners to make healthcare accessible to everyone, whenever and wherever they need it.”

Elizabeth Adeshina, CEO at WAZIMA Health says: “Our mission is to transform Africa’s access to healthcare, covering the full continuum of essential health services, from health promotion to prevention, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and palliative care. We welcome the partnerships with AXESS and Comitas to further fulfill our mission: making affordable quality healthcare a norm across Africa.”

Aquilino Antuña, CEO at COMITAS e-Health states: “Our partnership will help to improve the quality and accessibility of medical services, and we are sure that it is the right way to address challenges regarding healthcare services in Africa. We are thrilled to partner with AXESS and Wazima. Bringing our collective expertise and resources to the table will make a real impact in the lives of people across Africa.”

The multi-year exclusive partnership agreement comes into effect in March 2023.
