JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, Nuclear Technology Imbizo will now take place on the 16th and 17th of March in the Cape Town International Convention Centre. The decision to postpone the event was made after careful consideration and as a consequence of the current COVID-19 Omicron variant, which is increasing COVID-19 infection numbers and the uncertainty regarding its further developments. This was also based on travel restrictions imposed on Southern African. The nuclear industry is renowned for its very stringent safety standards and the organizers of the event strongly believe that now, more than ever, all necessary precautions need to be taken into consideration to avoid the transmission of COVID-19. “Everyone must do everything within their means to avoid contact with other people. Staying at home, avoiding public places and cancelling all social activities is the preferred best defense against the virus”, highlighted President Ramaphosa in his latest address to the nation on Corona. The theme of the Imbizo is “Promoting Global Strategic Partnership to Support the South African Nuclear Build Expansion Programme”. The event will be centered on sharing of lessons learnt and technology’s role in shaping the future of the South African nuclear industry. This requires the input of global industry players. “As per the theme of the Imbizo, the aim of the event is to promote global strategic partnerships in order to support the South African Nuclear Build expansion programme. This is extremely important to ensure that we encourage local companies within South Africa and potentially the rest of the continent to engage with international counterparts to joint forces and fully participate in the implementation of proposed projects, this will further facilitate the achievement of the intended industrialization and localization efforts to support Government on the Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan post Covid-19 pandemic negative economic impact. Therefore is important for this event to have invited delegates participating meaningfully during the event, able to meet with each other to consider how best they can engage on this global strategic partnership we are promoting” Said NIASA Deputy President Gaopalelwe Santswere. The event will be organized by Nuclear Industry Association of South Africa (NIASA) in partnership with South African Young Nuclear Professionals Society (SAYNPS), Women in Nuclear SA (WINSA) and Southern Africa Radiation Protection Society (SARPA). It will bring together Senior Executives from the key industry stakeholders and governmental representatives to energy providers, academics and explore the concept of complementarity and global partnerships. Participating organizations will also have an excellent opportunity to interact with a high target audience in the nuclear industry, enabling to not only lobby for their interests, but also network and tap into resources available from Africa. The organizers remain excited to have active participants in the Nuclear Technology Imbizo next year and will get back with more information shortly. |
