The Ministry Health has today signed a Memorandum of Understanding for setting up and implementation of a government of Kenya and Donors Sustainable Financing Mechanism for the Procurement of Family Planning (FP) Commodities, a move that will see access to FP commodities valued at 2.5 billion shillings.
Speaking during the signing ceremony in Nairobi, Health principal Secretary, Susan Mochache reiterated the Government’s intention to meet its National and International Family Planning commitments noting that FP is an essential component of the development agenda.
The PS said that the government is striving towards meeting the London 2012 summit on FP and ICPD25 commitments. “To achieve this, the country is striving for zero unmet need for family planning information and services with universal availability of quality, accessible, affordable and safe modern contraceptives.” She said.
She revealed that the efforts to improve FP services has resulted to major gains in Maternal and Child Health and that Government will continue to leverage on support from partners to build on the gains.
Development partners party to this MOU include Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom (FCDO).
