The highly anticipated Africa Media Festival (AMF) is set to return for its third edition on February 26-27, 2025, at the National Museums of Kenya. This flagship event brings together media professionals, storytellers, and innovators from across the continent to exchange ideas, collaborate, and redefine the future of African media.
A Platform for Transformation and Innovation
With a theme of “Bridging Gaps, Connecting Media Futures,” AMF 2025 aims to address structural, technological, and cultural challenges in African media. Through thought-provoking discussions and actionable insights, the festival seeks to foster innovation, build pathways for collaboration, and enhance representation across the industry.
Baraza Lab Executive Director Maurice Otieno described the festival as a “creative recharge station,” likening it to an oasis for media professionals. “We’re excited to hear your stories, celebrate your wins, and even reflect on those ‘What-was-I-thinking?’ moments,” he said.
A Dynamic Program for Learning and Networking
This year’s event will feature an exciting lineup of activities, including:
- Igniting Talks and panel discussions on media trends and opportunities.
- Workshops designed to upskill young professionals and content creators.
- Unconference Sessions and live demos showcasing technological advancements.
- Evening concerts with surprise acts, offering entertainment and cultural immersion.
Deputy Curator Martie Matange highlighted the festival’s focus on unsung media heroes. “We’ll spotlight those making a significant impact behind the scenes while equipping young professionals with the tools to stand out in a crowded content creation space,” she said.
Inclusivity at the Core
The 2025 edition places a strong emphasis on inclusivity, amplifying voices from rural creators, independent media, and marginalised communities alongside industry leaders. This approach ensures a diverse and representative platform for all participants.
Beyond the Two-Day Festival
The AMF is more than just a two-day event. Pre- and post-event initiatives, such as industry workshops, regional forums, and online engagements, aim to sustain dialogue and collaboration throughout the year. Marketing and Communications Manager Lisa Muchangi described the festival as a hub for connection and growth. “Whether you’re a storyteller, innovator, or media leader, you’ll join a collective shaping narratives that matter,” she said.
Since its inception, the festival has set a high standard for engagement, attracting over 1,300 attendees, 120 speakers, and hosting 50 sessions in its first two years. With its commitment to excellence and innovation, AMF 2025 promises to continue empowering African media to thrive in an ever-evolving landscape.
Mark your calendars for February 26-27, 2025, and join the Africa Media Festival to be part of the conversations shaping the future of African media.
