China aims to collaborate with African nations to advance green development through the “Africa Solar Belt” program, announced Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday.

Speaking after a meeting with Republic of Congo President Denis Sassou Nguesso, Wang emphasized China’s commitment to helping Africa transition to a low-carbon economy. He noted that photovoltaic power plants, built jointly by China and African countries, now exceed 1.5 GW in capacity, bringing clean energy to thousands of households.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has underscored the importance of eco-friendly modernization as a shared objective for China and Africa. This commitment includes implementing the Partnership Action for Green Development and advancing clean energy projects highlighted during the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

Wang also reaffirmed China’s dedication to supporting international climate governance, advocating for developed countries to honor their historical responsibilities by providing financial, technical, and capacity-building assistance to developing nations, particularly in Africa.
