President Hussein Ali Mwinyi departed on Saturday for Indonesia to represent President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the second Indonesia Africa Forum (IAF), which will be held from today until September 3, 2024.

Themed “Bandung Spirit for Africa’s Agenda 2063,” the forum is hosted in Bali and will feature African leaders from Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Ghana, Liberia, and Eswatini. Dr. Mwinyi is accompanied by senior government officials from both sides of the union.

Following the IAF, Dr. Mwinyi will proceed to Jakarta for a two-day working visit starting September 4, 2024. During this visit, the Tanzanian delegation will also attend the High-Level Forum on Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships (HLF MSP), which is held alongside the IAF.

The IAF will host 855 participants from various countries, while the HLF MSP, organized by Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), is expected to attract up to 1,500 participants, including delegates from African and Global South countries.

At both forums, private sector and state-owned enterprises are anticipated to sign agreements potentially worth up to $3.5 billion (approximately 9.5 trillion TZS). Tanzanian institutions, such as the Zanzibar Investment Promotion Authority (ZIPA), Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC), Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF), Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry & Agriculture (TCCIA), Government Procurement Services Agency (GPSA), Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC), and Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO), will present their insights on business and investment opportunities.

In celebration of 60 years of diplomatic relations between Tanzania and Indonesia, several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) will be signed. Notably, the Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority (TMDA) will formalize an MoU with the Indonesian National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM). Additional agreements, including a significant investment in fertilizer manufacturing by Indonesian company ESSA, will also be announced during the visit.
