TANZANIA : TANZANIA has featured in a list of top ten African countries with the largest population, according to a latest World Population Review report.
The country is ranked at 5th position, trailing other East African member state.
According to Tanzania’s 2022 Population and Housing Census, the East African member state’s population stands at 61.7 million.
Out of the said figure, females are 31,687,990 and males 30,053,130.
According to the study, Nigeria occupies number one with 224,275,240 and it is ranked number six globally followed by Ethiopia with 126,809,429 people.
Egypt is ranked third place with 112,870,951people followed by Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) at the fourth place with 102,556,950 populations.
On the other side, South Africa is ranked at sixth position with 60,462,959 people followed by Kenya (55,197,515), Uganda (48,700,835), Sudan (48,219,383) and Algeria (45,667,552).
The dossier states: “More than half of the world’s predicted population expansion between now and 2050 will come from just eight nations, five of which are African: the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Tanzania.”
According to the most recent United Nations projections, Africa’s current population is 1,463,378,937 as of Tuesday, August 1, 2023.
Africa’s population is 17.89 per cent of the total world population.
