Parliamentary Leaders from 22 Nations Meet to Forge Stronger Global Alliances

The Indonesia-Africa Parliamentary Forum (IAPF) 2024 began on Sunday in Bali, bringing together parliamentary leaders and representatives from 22 countries. The event, hosted in Nusa Dua, Bali, was launched by Puan Maharani, Speaker of Indonesia’s House of Representatives (DPR), who called for stronger partnerships to benefit the people of Indonesia, Africa, and beyond.

“I invite you to ensure that our parliaments will lead the fight for peace and prosperity in Africa, Indonesia, and globally,” Maharani stated in her opening remarks.

Maharani emphasized the critical role of parliamentary bodies in fostering closer ties between Indonesia and African nations. She urged parliaments to take a proactive stance in strengthening relationships and addressing global challenges that affect citizens worldwide.

“Various global crises have direct consequences for our people; therefore, parliaments must be more active in tackling these global issues,” she added.

The three-day summit, themed “Forging Indonesia-Africa Parliamentary Partnership for Development,” will run until Tuesday, focusing on enhancing cooperation and addressing mutual global challenges.
