During the UN General Assembly in New York, business magnate Elon Musk met separately with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Lesotho Prime Minister Sam Matakane to discuss potential business ventures.

President Ramaphosa’s discussions with Musk focused on exploring investment opportunities in South Africa, as confirmed by Ramaphosa’s office on X. While details of the private meeting remain undisclosed, local reports indicate it coincided with ongoing negotiations between the South African government and Starlink, Musk’s satellite internet initiative, aimed at introducing satellite services to the nation. Starlink is already operational in several other African countries.

Ramaphosa and his team are working to attract more investors to South Africa, the continent’s most industrialized economy. Earlier in the week, he addressed a gathering of U.S. and South African business leaders and visited the New York Stock Exchange.

In a separate meeting, Lesotho’s Prime Minister Matakane discussed enhancing connectivity in his country with Musk. He expressed a commitment to exploring innovative solutions to improve internet access and bridge the digital divide. “Exciting developments lie ahead,” Matakane shared on X.
