Bank of Africa (BOA)-Ghana, a member of the BMCE Group, has reopened its Abossey Okai branch, reaffirming its commitment to financial inclusivity and providing trusted commercial banking services. The branch aims to support the vibrant business enclave and surrounding communities, including Kaneshie, Agbogbloshie, Zongo, Korle-Gonno, Chorkor-Mamprobi, and Laterbiokorshie.

Strategically located near the Laterbiokorshie Total Energies fuel station, the branch offers a comprehensive range of financial services tailored to meet the diverse needs of businesses and residents in the area, particularly those in the bustling Abossey Okai spare parts hub.

Physical Banking: Still Relevant in a Digital Era

BOA Ghana’s Managing Director, Abderrahmane Belbachir, underscored the importance of maintaining physical banking facilities despite significant investments in digital platforms.

“Digital banking is critical, and we’re investing heavily to improve convenience and reach. However, physical branches remain essential for building trust and providing critical services that require personal engagement,” Belbachir explained.

He emphasized that BOA prioritizes exceptional customer service, stating, “Our goal is to enhance customer efficiency and satisfaction, developing products and services that meet their needs.”

A Landmark Location for a Growing Clientele

The reopening of the Abossey Okai branch is especially significant following the closure of the previous branch in 2022 during the Obetsebi Lamptey roundabout expansion project. Branch Manager Mausuf Mohammed Alfah highlighted the area’s economic importance, noting that the former branch served over 10,000 clients.

“Our communities include both educated and less literate populations who value personal interaction with bank staff and the reassurance of a physical presence,” Alfah said.

Executive Director of Business Development, William Boateng, described the reopening as a testament to BOA’s dedication to its clients, adding that this new branch becomes the bank’s 23rd in Ghana, complementing others in key cities such as Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi, Tamale, Wa, and Bolgatanga.

Supporting SMEs and Retail Banking

BOA continues to champion Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as vital contributors to Ghana’s economy. Through its SME Support Facility, the bank offers collateral-free loans to help businesses thrive.

Head of Retail Banking, Haleema Akyirem, emphasized that retail banking comprises about 45% of BOA’s services, making it central to their financial inclusivity drive.

“We cater to diverse customer categories—corporate, institutional, SME, and retail—with dedicated products and services tailored to their needs,” Akyirem said, noting that BOA offers over 60 financial products designed to stimulate socioeconomic activity, particularly in the SME and retail sectors.

Enhancing Accessibility

By reopening its Abossey Okai branch, BOA reaffirms its role as a partner in economic development, ensuring businesses and individuals have access to the financial tools they need. This initiative bridges the gap between digital advancements and the essential human touch, promoting financial empowerment across the region.
